This week I went to a class and learned how to re-block a wool hat from the lovely ladies of the Arrow's Flight SCA. We started off with an assortment of modern hats (100% wool) from second hand stores, but you can also get hat blanks or wool hoods and the same techniques apply.

First, remove any stabilizers or trim from the hat- cut off the ribbons, scrape off the glue, etc.

Second, apply water. You can steam your hat with an iron or steamer, spray it down, etc. We took the dunk it in a tub of water approach.

Third, shaping. You can now stretch and pull your hat into any shape your heart so desires. We did this on Styrofoam mannequin heads. Trim any excess and pin or tack in place.

Finally, let dry, and enjoy your new hat. :)

And, of course, it's always more fun with friends. :)
